Gorgeous and unusual large .925 sterling silver, antique replica of a French St Benedict medal with wording in Latin. The depth of the details on this medallion is just beautiful. I am blessed to have this rare original in my collection and be able to share this replica with you. The Saint Benedict prayer card shown in photos is included in the gift box.
This is a large, thicker, protection medal that measures 1.2 inches diameter (plus the top rectangle bail portion).
The front of the medal has "Sanctus Benedictus", meaning Holy Saint Benedict.
On the backside, the vertical beam of the Cross has five letters C.S.S.M.L., meaning Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux (May the Holy Cross be for me a light).
On the backside, the horizontal beam of the Cross has five letters N.D.S.M.D., meaning Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux (Let not the dragon be my guide).
On the backside, the four large letters at the angles of the Cross C S P B stand for Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti (The Cross of the Holy Father Benedict).
On the backside, encircling the Cross in a circle around the right margin are the letters V.R.S.N.S.M.V. meaning Vade retro Satana; nunquam suade mihi vana (Begone Satan! Suggest not to me thy vain things).
