This is a gorgeous and meaningful antique replica of a very rare and old 19th century St Agatha/St Lucia (Lucy) medallion from France. O.P.N. is Latin for Ora Pro Nobis (Pray for Us). I am blessed to have this beautiful piece of history in my collection and be able to share this replica with you. The prayer card shown in photos is included in the gift box.

Saint Agatha of Sicily was a consecrated virgin who was tortured for keeping her vow to God. One method of torture was cutting off her breasts after which her wounds miraculously healed. In religious art, she is often portrayed with shears, tongs, fire, or breasts on a plate. St Agatha is the patron saint of breast cancer, nurses and people who suffer from fires.

The connection with Saint Lucia (Lucy) of Syracuse is that St Lucy prayed at the tomb of St Agatha who then appeared to St Lucy in a dream. St Lucy was also tortured for keeping her vow of chastity. One method of torture was gouging out her eyes, but her eyes were found to be restored after death. St Lucia is the patron saint of blindness.

This 5/8" wide by 3/4" high medallion dangles on a 1mm oxidized sterling silver wheat chain with a lobster clasp closure.

This fine replica is cast in solid .925 sterling silver using the lost wax method and produced in the U.S.A. The oxidation finishing process makes this non-maintenance. This medal is not stamped sterling or 925 because it is identical to the original antique, but will test as .925 sterling silver.

A Holy Moments® Artisan piece.

Thank you for visiting my Holy Moments Etsy Shop! This has been my personal shopping account on Etsy for years. I recently decided to open an Etsy shop and display a selection of products from my established Holy Moments on-line and show company (HolyMoments.com).

The artisan jewelry and rosaries are unique to Holy Moments. Many pieces are only a few of a kind due to limited availability of certain gemstones or hand cast items. New, exciting products are always being added to both the Etsy shop and company website.

A portion of profits are donated to the Cancer Research Institute in New York, a leader in immunotherapy research. Please read my shop story for more.
