Gorgeous antiqued gold, antique replica, of a very rare and detailed Saint Sebastian (Sebastien) medal from France. Saint Sebastian is a wonderful patron saint of athletes and soldiers. I am blessed to have this mint condition original piece in my collection and be able to share this replica with you.
St Sebastian is the patron saint of athletes because of his physical endurance and his energetic way of spreading and defending the Faith. St Sebastian is also the patron saint of soldiers because he entered the Roman army under Emperor Carinus in 283 in order to defend the confessors and martyrs of his day.
The medal is between 5/8 and 3/4 inch round and available as the medal only (with ring) or dangling on a 2x3mm cable chain necklace with a lobster clasp closure.
This fine replica piece is cast in solid gold bronze using the lost wax method and produced in the U.S.A. The oxidation finishing process prevents tarnishing from contact with air. Excessive skin oils may darken the backside of the medal. It is also best to not wear gold bronze in water. A polishing cloth is included so the medal can be polished to the original appearance. You would not damage the medal by contact with water since it is solid gold bronze (not a plating), but it may darken and need additional polishing. The cable chain is a high quality antiqued gold plate.
